“One conversation saved my life.”

“It’s extremely tough to talk about this stuff. The more we talk about it, we create a world where people feel comfortable dealing with their emotions.”

“If we can change a life, we did it.”

Throughout their lives, both of the Kevins have endured mental health struggles and, like a lot of men, they were too ashamed to mention it until it was almost too late. As filmmakers, our goal is for the audience – especially males – to see themselves in both Berthia and Briggs and learn from their experiences. This unlikely friendship between a white police officer from Marin County and a black man from Oakland shatters prejudices and narratives. We want viewers to feel relief when they see courage and redemption on screen. And, whether they are in a position to listen or speak, we hope viewers will understand just how powerful one question or conversation can be.

Known as the “Guardian of the Golden Gate,” Sgt. Kevin Briggs has helped save over 200 lives.
